Do you remember Pat Boone in “State Fair” singing: “ Our state fair is the best state fair, it’s the best state fair in the state.”
If you live in Washington (the state), you probably feel that way about the Western Washington State Fair, more commonly referred to as the Puyallup Fair.
With the theme, “It’s a Doozy,” this year’s fair runs September 8-24th.
While the Fair features the stereotypical midway, with carnival rides and games, this is also a REAL fair, with cows, and pigs, and huge squash, and handicrafts. 4-H’ers from around the state show off their prize animals and projects. It’s serious business.
I love the animals, especially the ones where I can sneak a little pet. And the exhibit with the mother pig and 16 piglets always draws a crowd. I even walk through the cow barns, temporarily suspending thoughts of a nice, juicy steak as I do. (Photos are from last year’s Fair.)
There’s also a rodeo and a concert series.
Information about general admission Fair tickets, as well as to the special events, is available through the Fair website.
