Brrrrrrrrr! It’s cold outside! And in some parts of the world, much, much colder than others.
It’s a time for slowing down the pace, maybe even staying indoors and hibernating. Unfortunately, that lack of activity can lead to packing on a few pounds.
Trying to combat our inertia, and get us off the couch and out of doors, is Winter Trails, an international event designed to introduce newcomers to snow sports. This year’s event, the 12th annual, will be held on January 6th, 2007 at more than 100 locations across the United States and Canada.
If you are interested in trying out snowshoeing or cross-country skiing, you can take advantage of the Winter Trail offer to try the sport out for free. The events are held at Nordic Centers, National Parks, and local ski resorts, and you can find a participating facility near you here. A variety of businesses contribute free equipment, and some venues also offer lessons and clinics.
It’s all part of the “Winter Feels Good” public awareness campaign that promotes health, fitness, and the social benefits of participating in snow sports. Additionally you can earn points toward a President’s Challenge Award from the Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
What a great way to try something new, and burn a few calories while you’re at it.
