Back to Basics Travel Tip: Cookies

I’m not talking about some homemade goodies that you can take with you on your trip — I’m talking about the kind on your computer that can keep you from getting the very best travel deal out there.

Whether you’re looking at a travel aggregator site, comparison site, airline site, or a travel wholesaler, the sites place cookies on your computer.  It’s not a bag thing, that’s how they remember your name, customer information, account information, etc.  It keeps you from having to completely fill out a form EVERY time you want to do something.

But there’s a price for that convenience.

And that price may be that you’re not getting the lowest possible quote for your airfare, hotel room, travel package, etc.

Next time you do a price search, delete your cookies when you try again.  The sites you visits will treat you as a new visitor, and you may be able to find a lower price.

I’ve done this a few times, and while I didn’t save a ton, I did find prices that came up that were a few dollars cheaper.
