Flight Attendant Friday: Educational Requirements

Q.  What are the educational requirements to become a Flight Attendant?  Should I take a course at a travel school?

A.  Requirements vary from carrier to carrier, but generally speaking, a college degree is not required (although a great number of Flight Attendants have degrees).  If a degree is not required, the airline will be looking for a combination of education and work experience.  So, don’t drop out of college hoping to get hired.  Continue your education as you start the application process.  It’s pretty rare, although possible, to get hired without any college education.

As far as a special travel school, I don’t feel they are necessary as you don’t gain an advantage from the education in the hiring process.  Once you’ve been selected, the airlines will put you through their own training program.  Most of these travel schools are fairly expensive, and I believe you money is better spent for on a general college education.
