Photo Friday: Eiffel Tower Restaurant at Paris Las Vegas

13

I was in Las Vegas a few months back, and had an opportunity to chat with a waiter and one of the local restaurants.  As I usually do, I asked him where he goes when he’s going out for the evening.  And, I always stipulate that he can’t choose (or try to sell me on) any of the restaurants or bars where he works.

On this occasion the answer surprised me.  My waiter shared that his favorite place to take someone that he’s trying to impress, or for a special occasion, is the Eiffel Tower Restaurant at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel.

I had always viewed visiting this restaurant as an expensive tourist choice – much like visiting the Jules Verne Restaurant in the real Eiffel Tower.  Expensive, so-so food, and no real value for the money spent.

My waiter pointed out how I was wrong.  Yes, it is expensive, with appetizers starting at $15 and entrees at $25, but he added, he considers this a special occasion restaurant where he’s going to be shelling out some serious money anyway.  He said the food was impressive, the service memorable, and the view spectacular.

I’m still not sure.  A recommendation from a disinterested local weighs heavily in my consideration, though.  Have you been there?  Is it worth a try as my waiter recommended?  Or would you pass?

    I’d pass.
When we were in Vegas this past summer, my kids noted that the Eiffel Tower in Vegas wasn’t half as good as the one in Paris because, and I quote, “in Paris, you can lie on the ground under the tower and look up the middle”. Who knew that would be an evaluation criteria?

That’s funny. A friend commented that it was lots different because in Paris a bottle of water cost more than a glass of wine. Travel really is about perspective, isn’t it?!

There seem to be a variety of reviews, I just always seem to be able to put more weight on a review from someone that I know. This is clearly not an every day type of restaurant, so it would be nice to have some comments from someone who has been to comparable restaurants, rather than comparing it to mid-range places.

There are so many great restaurants in Vegas, it’s hard to narrow down a definitive recommendation. I’ve only been to the Eiffel Tower restaurant once — it was good, but in my opinion, hard to justify the price. If I were going to spend big bucks taking visitors to a nice restaurant, I’d probably pick NINE steakhouse at the Palms. But most people in my circle don’t spend that kind of money on one outing. For what it’s worth, I’d recommend more moderately priced options… Burger Bar at Mandalay Place and Pink Taco at Hard Rock are a couple of my favorites. I don’t, by the way, work at any of those places.

Yeah, it’s a spendy proposition, that’s for sure. And while it’s out of my usual price range as well, I can’t say that it’s out of the reach for a special occasion (think birthday, anniversary, Valentine’s Day, etc.).

Generally speaking, I, too, opt for something more moderately priced, and Las Vegas does have lots to offer in that price range.

  5. For true unbiased restataurant opinions from those who have dined at a particular restaurant try Opentable.com. They send surveys to each and every diner that books through their service and posts them on their site.

    At your service!

Thanks for the tip! I had completely forgotten about Open Table as a source for reviews.

We passed on the Eiffel Tower restaurant when we were in Paris because we’d heard it wasn’t worth the price, although I wished we’d been able to go up for the view.

There are also a slew of reviews of the LV version on Yelp http://www.yelp.com/biz/eiffel-tower-restaurant-las-vegas (none of them mine…I just started with a few Detroit area reviews on Yelp in the past month).
