Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

I’m in Orlando today, staying at the Hard Rock Hotel for a few nights. I’ve only had a chance to see a little bit of the resort – it’s adjacent to Universal Orlando – but so far, it’s lovely and inviting, with plenty of rock and roll. Here’s some reading for your Sunday pleasure:

John Nash: A life of great struggle and even greater success

John Nash, whose life was portrayed in A Beautiful Mind, has passed away. He was brilliant, and tortured by mental illness, and wasn’t wearing his seatbelt.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize in economics for his work in game theory, which offered insight into the dynamics of human rivalry. It is considered one of the most influential ideas of the 20th century.

Art, Wine & Inspiration in Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara is one of the places that I’ve wanted to go to, but just haven’t found the time to work it into the schedule. I’m going to try to remedy that this summer.

I found that getting to the heart of a destination, learning about its roots, and chatting with locals can be a very fulfilling experience. I definitely have more of an appreciation for The American Riviera and a better idea of what it would be like to live there.

The Best Way to Garnish a Bloody Mary

Bloody Marys are a brunch staple, but what sets them apart may be how they’re dressed up. Take a look at these garnishes and add panache to your next serving.

But the fact of the matter is that the Bloody Mary, cockeyed from a slap of vodka just as you might have been the night before ordering one, is above all else the king of brunch.

Belltown’s Mama’s Mexican Kitchen to close

A lot of the long time Seattle restaurants are closing, and while it’s easy to mourn their loss, when there’s no next generation to carry on – and your’re offered a bucket fullof money – it’s tough to say no. Mama’s has always been a favorite kitschy Mexican food choice, soI’m making sure to get there a time (or two) before it closes. If you’ve missed it, head there now. And ask for a table in the Elvis room.

In yet another act of Seattle gentrification, Mama’s Mexican Kitchen in Belltown is moving out its Elvis room and closing to make way for apartments.

The new line of cold-pressed juices made for summer cocktails

In an attempt to make drinking cocktails healthy, this line of juices says using them will add fruits and vegetables to your diet. Yeah, sure, that’s what I think about when I want a margarita.

Forget kale-apple-lemon. CleanDrinking‘s cold-pressed juices come in Hotamelon TequilaCleanse, RaspberryAddict VodkaCleanse, and PineappleLove VodkaCleanse.
