Tuesday Deal Day: Building Seaside Memories with Holidays at The Del

Tuesday Deal Day: Building Seaside Memories with Holidays at The Del

It may barely be the end of summer, but it’s getting to late to make your Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s plans. If you’re looking for a warm weather holiday destination, with a distinct holiday twist, try the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego – it’s offers a beachfront ice rink.

Known for celebrating the holidays in grand tradition, the Hotel del Coronado has gained a reputation for its festive holiday grandeur since 1888. It was here in 1904 that America witnessed the first electrically-lit outdoor Christmas tree, setting the stage for a century of holiday enchantment. In 2003 the resort introduced the first beachfront ice rink, a tradition delighting young and old, which returns for the 11th year this season.

Building Seaside Memories

Upon completion of a 2-year, $13 million renovation, the resort will be transformed into holiday seaside glory, the theme for 2014 celebrating the resort’s location on the sand. The infamous lobby tree will decked out in grand colors of a Coronado Beach sunset, in shades of aqua, turquoise, sea green and coral. Even Santa and his reindeer will have a bit of seaside flair.

This year’s 22nd Annual Collector’s Ornament depicts the Del in molded glass, reminiscent of a sandcastle, in warm tones matching the resort décor. The ornament is available for $32.50 in the hotel’s Signature Shop, Est. 1888, and in its online store.

I live in San Diego and absolutely love the Hotel Del. In addition to their fun events, if you sign up for their emails, you get a coupon every year for special events like your birthday and wedding anniversary that provides a discount. We usually use that as an excuse to have a special dinner in their fabulous restaurant.

It is so lovely. I’ve not stayed there, just visited for lunch, but the special offers you mentioned may be just what I need to get there.
